Hebrews 9:23-10:18 Exodus 9-10 Proverbs 3 Ether 11

  1. Proverbs 3 is probably among the top ten most quoted scriptures in the church, but it holds a special place in my heart. I was in fifth grade and my father was out on a construction site over in North Dakota. He was carrying a 200 pound motor and there was a spot where it stepped down and he didn't see it and tripped and slipped numerous discs in his back and had some pinched nerves. He was hospitalized and was in severe pain. My mom came and got me out of school and told me what had happened and took me to a friends house so that she could drive over to North Dakota and get dad and bring him home. I was terrified. Terrified about my dad and if he was going to be okay. Terrified about where we would be financially if dad couldn't go back to work. Thinking back on it 23 years later I can still feel it like it was yesterday. Anyway, before my mom left she sat us all down and pulled out the scriptures and read...."trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and he will direct thy paths." She then proceeded to tell us about how she knew that everything was going to be okay even though it didn't look like it. I remember a calm feeling of peace wash over me as she was speaking. And then she told us that she would be back in a couple of days with dad. Everything did work out okay. Dad got one of the best doctors in the Valley and was able to return back to work after a year. Mom was able to support the family with her teachers income, and when Dad returned to work he got a better paying job with a similar company that allowed him to stay home. It was an amazing testimony to me as a young child that you can find peace in the scriptures and that Heavenly Father really does speak through the scriptures to his Children that faithfully use them.
