So today in Sunday School we learned about How Lemhi told Ammon that he sent 43 people out in search of the people that they left years before. And how those 43 people were not able to find out what happened to their brethren. Instead these people found a record containing 24 gold plates. I was talking to my youth about the 24 gold plates that were found. One of the questions that was asked was "Why would it be helpful for Lemhi's people-and for us- to know about the Jaredite people? We did kind of steer of course for a minute when I asked the students how they would feel if we were able to find documentation of the Lost City of Atlantis. What would they learn from those records and how would they benefit from this civilization, "if it did exist"? They were excited to talk about the possibilities of information that we would gain from another civilization and the lessons good and bad that we could learn. Now to my point! The 24 gold plates that were found contain VALUABLE information! One of the books found within the 24 plates is the Book of Ether.In the Book of Ether we learn about this marvelous faith building account where he goes to the Lord and the Lord lets him figure out how they are going to solve all the problems to cross the ocean safety and his faith is so great that he is able to see the finger of the Lord. There is also the story of the tower of babel that we read yesterday and because of their righteousness the Brother of Jared and his family were blessed to have their language from being confounded so they were able to communicate and get out of the situation. The Brother of Jared's unprecedented faith is invaluable to us! And we will also later learn about the fall of the Jaredite civilization and the importance of following the prophet so that we can be saved.
The scriptures are for our benefit for sure and I for one am grateful that that the 43 men that were sent to find their people found this record instead and that we have it today!
